Russia reacted cautiously on Mr. Donald Trump’s re-election to the White House, saying that only time will prove whether Trump is actually interested in ending Russia-Ukraine war as he had been saying.

News organisations, quoting Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, reported that United States is still an “unfriendly country, which is both directly and indirectly involved in a war against Russia. We have repeatedly said that the U.S. is able to contribute to the end of this conflict. This cannot be done overnight, but... the U.S. is capable of changing the trajectory of its foreign policy.... we will see after January."

Trump has openly said that he will not support Ukraine in the war (if he won), and the Ukraine should negotiate with Russia and end the war.

The West, however, has been keen to have the U.S. continue its support to Ukraine against Russia as it thinks that Russian aggression has to be checked for its own future security. How much of the West influence can Trump be acting upon, only time can test.

On the other hand, success of recent BRICS Summit in Russian city of Kazan, will also weigh upon Trump when he actually formulates his foreign policy vis-à-vis Russia. All these factors will work in proving Trump right or wrong on his promise to end Russia-Ukraine war.
