After August 15 resolution by Russia and North Korean to deepen bilateral ties, the U.S. and South Korea on Tuesday started joint air drills to counter North Korean threat. August 15 is celebrated by North Korean as liberation day; Russian President Putin had sent a congratulatory message to North Korean President Kim to mark the day. The two countries, both opposed to the U.S., had resolved to deepen mutual ties.
As reported by news organisations, more than 200 South Korean and U.S. fighter jets are planned to fly around the clock for five days this week. This would be the largest number of sorties flown in training by the two countries. The exercise is a part of U.S.-South Korean readiness to any possible aggression by North Korean. North Korean is nuclear-armed and the U.S.-South Korea are always on their toes, with the U.S. reportedly maintaining a huge contingent of air power in the South Korea.
