The United States shut its Ukraine embassy in Kyiv on Wednesday fearing a potential airstrike a day after Ukraine attacked deep inside Russian territory with a U.S.-made long-range missile and Russia lowered its threshold for a response with nuclear arms.

News organisations reported that the U.S. took the decision to shut down its embassy in Kyiv due to a "specific information of a potential air attack".

Russia maintained that if Ukraine used a weapon made by a third country to strike into Russian territory, it would count it as the direct entry of the said country. In such a case the Russian President can order use of a nuclear weapon in self-defence. Ukraine strike into Russian territory using U.S.-made long-range ATACMS missile has escalated the war, and the U.S. now fears a retaliation from Russia.

Other nations who have shit their embassies in Kyiv include Italy and Greece.
