U.S. Secretary of State in Iraq to discuss Syria

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a sudden visit to Iraq on Friday and met Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in order to discuss Syria's political transition to ensure that Syria has a ‘friendly’ regime.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a sudden visit to Iraq on Friday and met Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in order to discuss Syria's political transition. Blinken, according to news reports, has called for a ‘non-sectarian’ administration.

Russia, the long-time ally of Bashar family which ruled Syria for 50 years, too has rushed to ally with the new ruling dispensation in Syria, reportedly to safely maintain its two militarily strategic bases in Syria, which the U.S. does not want to see.

Israel has already entered its troops into Syrian territory and destroyed strategic weapons in Syria. Iran, on the other hand, has lost an ally in al-Assad to supply weapons to the Hezbollah against Israel.

Syria has become a playing ground for most world powers who want to control its new ruling dispensation so that they can exercise control over middle-east politics and economy.

After the rebels overthrew al-Assad, Mohammed al-Bashir, the former head of the rebel administration in the north-west, has taken over as the Prime Minister of the interim government in Syria until March 2025 by the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies.
