The U.S. presidential poll is just four days away now. The voters are sharply divided and win of a candidate is set to be decided by a thin margin. The battleground states and the swing voters would be the decisive players in this closely contested election between Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Kamala Harris.

Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump had a tough campaign and here is where each stands with regard to key issues that will not just affect the U.S. citizens but the whole world, United States being the most powerful nation and its policies affecting global issues.

Ms. HARRIS

On Foreign Policy:

• On Ukraine, her stand is a continued support with weapons and funds against Russia.

• On Middle-East war, Ms. Harris has often asked Israel to go for ceasefire and begin peace talks. The humanitarian crisis the war has created is unacceptable to her.

• Ms. Harris is expected to keep tariffs on Chinese imports in place, which at present is worth hundreds of billions of dollars. The tariffs had ben imposed by Trump and expanded by Joe Biden including on electronic vehicle.

On Tax:

• Ms. Harris wants a raise in tax on American households that earn more than $ 400,000 a year. She however proposes tax cuts below this income threshold.

• Ms. Harris will do away with the taxes on tips; offer aid to first time home buyers, boost middle class savings.

• Ms. Harris has said Trump is divisive, revengeful and will follow his self-interest; not good for American democracy. She has reminded the voters the mob attack the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021.

• Ms. Harris has maintained that she will be the President of all the people of America.

Mr. TRUMP:

On Foreign

• Trump has often called Ukraine President Zelenskyi the ‘greatest salesman on earth’ who walks away with huge aid on every visit to the U.S., and that he would stop this if he wins. Instead, Trump wants Ukraine to negotiate with Russia, meaning cede some portion of Ukraine to Russia, and end the war.

• On Middle-East war, Trump stands by Israel. He will continue the policy of the present administration.

• On Chinese imports, Trump will end China’s status as the most favoured trading nation, and proposes heavy tariffs on Chinese imports.

• Mr. Trump will impose retaliatory tariffs on nations that put a trade barrier. He has proposed high tariffs on foreign cars, including that from China.

On Tax:

Ms. Trump wants to preserve all the individual tax rates that his administration had imposed during his tenure. His argument is that they boosted U.S. growth. He will, however, scrap tax on tips, overtime income and social security benefits.

• Mr. Trump has charged Joe Biden and Ms. Harris to have destroyed U.S. economy. He has said Ms. Harris is ‘unfit’.
