U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has said on Wednesday that North Korean troops are in Russia and that there is evidence of it. "There is evidence that there are DPRK troops in Russia," Austin was quoted by news organisations as saying, in Rome. He has said that if they are participating in the war alongside Russia against Ukraine, it is very, very serious.

South Korea, which had earlier said that 10,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Russia, on Wednesday said that North Korea has sent 3,000 troops to Russia, and thousands more are to be sent, according to news reports.

Meanwhile, another report by news organisation said that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday visited missile bases to examine their readiness, citing growing U.S. nuclear threat.
