The United Nation High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has said that ending the Israel war with Palestine is a priority and asked countries to act on the Israel’s “blatant disregard” to international law. Mr. Turk said it at a speech at the start of the five-week U.N. Human Rights Council session in Geneva on Monday.

The war between Israel and Palestine is nearly a year long now and Israel has killed over 41,000 Palestinians during this span of time. The war began after Hamas militants on October 7, 2023 attacked Israel and killed some 1200 people.

"States must not – cannot – accept blatant disregard for international law, including binding decisions of the Security Council and orders of the International Court of Justice, neither in this nor any other situation," Turk said, as reported by news organisations.
