Twenty-four hours to go, and the voting for the much-awaited U.S. presidential election will begin, even as the curtain of suspense as to who occupies the hot chair of the world is to continue for a few more days until the counting of ballots is over and the result is known to the public.
According to reports by news organisations, by Sunday over 68 million people had already exercised their voting rights making use of the early voting system in the United States. President Joe Biden too exercised his voting rights through early voting.
Early voting is a system that enables a voter to cast his vote even before the date of voting; date of voting being on the first Tuesday of the month of November, this time in 2024 the date being November 5. This arrangement is done in order to help voters who are not available, for different reasons, on the day of voting.
A day before the day of voting, polling data by different news organisations looked like this:
New York Times:
Harris: 49%
Trump: 48%
Fivethirtyeight:
Harris: 48.1%
Trump: 46.6%
Seven crucial swing states will, however, decide the final outcome in the closely contested election. These included: Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and Neveda. Both Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump have done a lot of ward work to win over the voters in these crucial states.
