U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and his funder and tech billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday watched SpaceX launch Starship from its Texas base. While the giant ship, 233-foot-tall, managed to send the craft into the space, the booster missed landing, news organisations reported.

The roughly 400-foot-tall rocket system, designed to land astronauts on the moon and ferry crews to Mars, lifted off from SpaceX's sprawling rocket development site in Boca Chica, Texas as Trump and Musk watched it go.

The heavy booster was unexpectedly diverted into the Gulf of Mexico instead of a fall into large mechanical arms attached to the tower it launched from.
