Tech billionaire Elon Musk is now after Germany election, after having put in place Republican candidate Donald Trump on the helm of affairs in the United States. According to news reports, Musk on Friday called the far-right party in Germany, Alternative for Germany as the nation’s saviour.
Alternative for Germany (AfG), set up in 2013, is a right-wing political party. Since 2023, AfD is said to be the second most popular party in Germany.
The outcome of the presidential election in the United States may impact German election too, as slogans like America First, and Make America Great Again, does well with a right-wing party. Germany is the leading economy in European Union, and far-right ideology will not remain untouched by such slogans there too, when it goes to poll on February 23 next year. A few weeks ago, the centre-left coalition government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz had collapsed. "Only the AfD can save Germany," Musk has put his views on his social media platform, X.
According to media reports, Musk’s message has already been receiving criticism. Matthias Miersch, secretary-general of Scholz's Social Democrats, has said: "Stay out, Elon."
