South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached by the parliament on Saturday over his attempt to impose martial law, but news organisations reported that Yeol reportedly vowed to fight back for his political future.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soon, who had been appointed by Yeol to the post, has taken over as the acting president. Yeol remains in office but his presidential powers remain suspended. He however, will continue to get $170,000 salary per year, news reports said.

Yeol is the second president in South Korea to be impeached. Earlier, Park Geun-hye had been removed from office in 2017. South Korea, home to many business conglomerates, is currently undergoing political instability as well as geopolitics pressure from nuclear North Korea. The acting president has assured to provide stability in the country.
