Democratic Republic of Congo has arrested seventeen Chinese men accusing them of running an illegal gold mine in Congo, news organisations have reported on Friday, quoting the Congo government authorities. The government authorities have said that the Chinese men were involved in unlicensed extraction of Congo’s minerals.

The men were arrested after a government delegation reportedly made an unannounced visit to the mine site. "We asked them to present us with the company's documents. There were no documents. No certificate, no status, no national identification, nothing," mines minister Bernard Muhindo was quoted by news reports as saying.
