Russian President Vladimir Putin has gifted over 70 animals, including an African lion, brown bears, and cockatoos, to North Korea, news organisations have reported, highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations that are against the U.S. and its Western allies.

According to reports, the set of animals that included two yaks, were transported from the Moscow Zoo to the Pyongyang Central Zoo by air, accompanied by a team of veterinarians. In addition to the yaks, the gifts included African lion, brown bears, white cockatoos, 25 species of pheasants, and 40 mandarin ducks.

The gift reportedly comes weeks after the US and South Korea claimed that North Korea had sent thousands of troops to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine.

President Putin’s love for pets is well-known.
