Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that geopolitical risks are rising and that Russia needs a nuclear weapons ready. News organisations reported that Putin on Tuesday, kicked off a new drill of the nation’s nuclear forces. North Korean Foreign Ministry too had arrived in Russia on Tuesday—all of which indicate that Russia-Ukraine war is on an escalation.

"We will work out the actions of officials to control the use of nuclear weapons with practical launches of ballistic and cruise missiles," global news agency, Reuters, reported citing Russian President Putin as saying on a video clip announcing the drill.

Putin in the clip said that Russia will not enter into an arms race, but will maintain nuclear forces at the level of necessary sufficiency.

The drill of the nuclear forces is being looked up as a response to the U.S. and the NATO’s support to Ukraine with weapons. Russia had said that it will count it as a direct involvement of a nuclear weapon nation in the war, if Ukraine used that nation’s war weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.

Russia is the world's largest nuclear power. A few weeks back, it had made changes in the official policy of use of nuclear weapons.
