Russia-Guinea Bissau hold meet to explore business collaboration

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday held a meet with Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo in what is being seen as Russia’s effort to expand its relations with African nations.

According to reports, Russia businessman Oleg Deripaska was present at the talks between the two leaders. Reports suggested that Russian aluminium company Rusal wants to build a railway and a port in Guinea-Bissau and explore bauxite.

Russia’s ally China has already developed close business ties with many African nations in order to increase its economic power vis-à-vis the United States.
