Russia on Thursday fired an intercontinental ballistic missile on Ukraine, according to a claim made by Kyiv, news organisations have reported.
Quoting a video statement of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, news organisations stated that if confirmed, this would be first ever use of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by any nation in a war.
The ICBM is a strategic weapon used to deliver nuclear arm against an enemy country and usually not used on ordinary times, suggesting that the war between Russia and Ukraine has escalated. "Today there was a new Russian missile. All the characteristics – speed, altitude – are (of an) intercontinental ballistic (missile). An expert (investigation) is currently underway," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in a video statement, which has been reported by news organisations.
Analysists fear that Russia has used the ICBM in response to Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles made by the U.S. and Britain against Russia a few days back.
