A Royal New Zealand navy ship sank off Samoa on Saturday night, but all 75 onboard are safe, news organisations reported quoting New Zealand Defence Force.
Samoa is a small island country in the central South Pacific Ocean. It is made up of an archipelago of nine islands, four of which are inhabited. The two largest islands are Savai'i and Upolu. Samoa sits about halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii.
The incident took place near the southern coast of Upolu on Saturday night as the naval ship was conducting a reef survey. Many vessels came to the rescue of the men on board after the crew and passengers had left on lifeboats when the ship was sinking.
