Russian President Vladimir Putin has apologized to Azerbaijan president over shotting down of the latter’s airplane in Russian airspace that killed 38 people on board.
According to news reports, Putin called the incident as “tragic” that had occurred when Russian air defence system was engaged repelling Ukrainian drones. The incident had taken place on Christmas Day in Aktau in Kazakhstan.
News organisations in their reports said that Russia had released a statement on Saturday noting Putin had spoken to Azerbaijan's president Ilham Aliyev by phone.
