People are protesting against Serbian government’s project of lithium excavation that it has signed with the European Union. The protests have been held in the western town of Sabac and the central towns of Kraljevo, Arandjelovac, Ljig and Barajevo of Serbia. The project will help European Union’s dependency for this ‘critical raw material’ on China. Also, it will bring Serbia closer to the European Union, from its present closeness to Russia and China. The largest lithium reserve of Serbia lies in a western valley, which is rich in fertile land and water. Lithium is used in number of things including making of batteries.
