Portugal is fighting a nasty fire and on Monday asked European Union to send fire-fighting support to control the blazes, news reports said. On Monday, at least 15 blazes raged in central and northern Portugal, and one of them even burned houses on the outskirts of a town Albergaria-a-Velha.

Nearly 800 fire-fighters had been engaged to bring down the blazes, and the police evacuated residents several villages between Lisbon and Porto. Thick smoke has covered the region, endangering not just flora and fauna but also life and property in general.

Portugal government has asked for aircrafts from European Unions to fight the ranging fire. Dry conditions prevail in the region, which is why situation is feared to get worse if the blazing fire is not brought under control soon.
