Pope Leo XIV, the newly elected pontiff of Roman Catholic Church, appealed for peace in the world at his first ever Sunday message, saying ‘no more war’calling for authentic peace in Ukraine and praising India-Pakistan ceasefire.

The India-Pakistan peace deal that had been arrived at on Saturday but had allegedly been broken as both the countries complained against one another, resumed on Sunday after reportedly a mediation by the United States President Donald Trump.

Praising the leaders of both the countries for agreeing to halt the war, Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, offered help, saying: "I will work with you both to see if ... a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir."

Kashmir had been a bone of contention for both India and Pakistan, which have gone on war earlier too, over the issue of Kashmir. While India is a Hindu majority country with a secular State, Pakistan is a Muslim majority country with an Islamic State. Each of them holds a portion of Kashmir, which has been in the grip of terrorism for quite sometimes now. War between the two nations had erupted a few days back after some tourists were killed by terrorists by Kashmir in the Indian territory, following which India bombed some targets allegedly terrorist spots in Pakistan territory. Attacks and counter-attacks between the two nations continued till Sunday morning.

Pope Leo XIV had been elected on May 8, first person from the United States to become the head of Roman Catholic Church history. In his Sunday address, the Pope called for authentic and lasting peace in Ukraine, a ceasefire in Gaza and release of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas militants—all of which had been the advice of his predecessor Pope Francis.
