According to information, the Pope died of a stroke and cardiac arrest, and his death came sudden and without suffering.
Pope Francis headed the Roman Catholic Church for 12 years, during which he had to clash with traditionalists. He took steps to address child abuse by the clergy. He also will be remembered for his voice against nations imposing wars against the weak. He often came strictly on human sufferings caused by the wars, calling for international study into possible planned genocides by warring nations. This courageous posture of the Pope earned him the wrath of the world leaders against whom he spoke, but he was convinced of the role he had to play in the world.
The Vatican today released photographs of Francis dressed in his vestments and holding a rosary, lying in an open coffin placed in the chapel of the Santa Marta residence.
According to information from the Vatican, the Pope on Monday started feeling unwell at around 5.30 a.m., and was immediately attended by his medical team, but about an hour later, went into a coma. He breathed his last at 7.35 a.m. without much suffering. Death was peaceful.
Among the world leaders who are arriving Vatican to join the last journey of Pope Francis include U.S. President Donald Trump along with his wife, heads of states including presidents of France, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, the European Commission, Argentina and Britain’s prime minister.
