Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos on Monday asked his countrymen to “overlook”the assassination threat issued by Vice President  Sara Duterte, news organisations reported on Monday. Marcos also vowed to fight back the assassination threat.

"The statements we heard in the previous days were troubling," Marcos was quoted by news organisations as saying. "There is the reckless use of profanities and threats to kill some of us. I will fight them".

Marcos and Sara Duterte ran for the election together and won. However, over the days the two fell apart, reportedly on the issue of handling China. China has been aggressively expanding its territories in the waters of South China Sea and is in deep conflict with Philippines.

Vice President Sara, the daughter of firebrand former President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday she had said that she had instructed an assassin to kill Marcos and his wife, if she were killed.

Marcos Sr, father of the present President, too was the president of Philippines and is remembered as a “strongman”.
