Pakistan Army chief admits the involvement in Kargil war against India in 1999. In what can be termed as a rare confession by a service Army Chief, Army Chief of Pakistan General Asim Munir confessed involvement of Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil war. He admitted the role of Pakistan in the Kargil war when addressing soldiers at a function to mark Defence and Martyrs Day event at Rawalpindi on Friday.

General Munir said that Pakistan had to pull off after the intervention of the United States. India, however, maintains that it emerged victorious in the Kargil war. Though Indian had been speaking of the involvement of Pakistan in the Kargil war, Pakistan had been denying it and maintaining that only the ‘freedom fighters’ fought against India. “Whether the Pak-India wars of 1948, 1965, 1971 and Kargil or Siachen conflict, thousands of martyrs gave sacrifices for the security and honour of the country,” newspapers quoted General Munir as speaking in his address.
