At present two wars are being fought in the world: Israel vs Hamas-Hezbollah and Russia vs Ukraine. The two are different distinctively in their approach, though there are some similarities as far as involvement of superpowers are concerned.
While Russia-Ukraine war is between two nations, rather two blocs; Israel vs Hamas-Hezbollah war has more proxy players than direct nation-state actors. What, however, is the worry is that this war has crossed the line of what can be called ‘war’ and entered the level of ‘genocide’. In fact, International Court of Justice in Hague too feels this way, and considers a prosecution request for arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and two Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, different reports of news organisations reveal.
Israel also faces charges of alleged state responsibility for violations of the 1948 Genocide Convention in the war in Gaza at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In Gaza and in Lebanon, humanitarian crises have hit a very serious point with men, women and children rendered homeless, foodless and medicine-less, all because Israel doesn’t care to heed advice of nations to go for ceasefire.
No one knows where the war has moved to, and where it will lead to!
On Thursday, Israeli airstrikes killed 11 Palestinians in Gaza City, according to reports of news agency Reuters; while Israeli forces sent tanks into Jabalia in the north, where Palestinians and United Nations officials expressed alarm over shortages of food and medicine. "We have written our death notes, and we are not leaving Jabalia," Reuters quoted one resident in one of its reports. "The occupation (Israel) is punishing for not leaving our houses in the early days of the war, and we are not going now either. They are blowing up houses, and roads, and are starving us but we die once and we don't lose our pride," Reuters further wrote, quoting a father of four expressing his feelings.
International Court of Justice does not have any police or military of its own, and it depends on the police powers of its member states. This is why it is more of an institution with moral authority than an authority of punitive action. If nations don’t care for humanity or moral responsibility, the war is poised to go on until it turns into a world-war. However, nature has its own way of repaying. Warring nation gets drained at some point of time. Though it manages to destroy its enemy, in the process it gets destroyed. Colonial powers lost their wealth and power at World War II; and warring nations, particularly Israel refuses to learn a lesson from it.
