The United States on Thursday vetoed a United Nation resolution that called for ceasefire of Israel-Palestine war. The resolution had been brought in by 10 elected members that was put to vote, stating: the proposal “demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire to be respected by all parties, and further reiterated its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages”.
The U.N. Security Council voted 14-1 in favour of the resolution sponsored by the 10 elected members on the 15-member council, but it was not adopted because of the U.S. veto. The 10 elected members do not enjoy veto power while the five: the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France, do.
