Regional and global powers scrambling to influence the government that replaces the fallen President Bashar al-Assad in Syria, met in Jordan on Saturday. The diplomats of the nations included those from the United States, Turkey, European Union and Arab countries.

Al-Assad’s ally Russia and Iran were kept out, though they too are making their own efforts to influence the interim government in Syria.

The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in the Middle-East to fix the new situation that has arisen due to the fall of the autocrat rule of the Assad family in Syria to U.S.’s favour. Wahington reportedly is working to ensure that the new government, to be dominated by the members of the rebel groups including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), is favourable towards the U.S. principles, including favourably disposed towards the minorities.
