In one of the rare incidents, a deadly fire today broke out on a Japanese warship on Sunday that was sailing near the western part of the country, news organisations reported quoting the Japanese navy.
While the cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained, senior officials of Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force said that if the fire continued, the warship may finally sink, which would be a rare incident. The crew members shifted to a rescue ship although one of them is reportedly missing and another had to be hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
The fire in the warship, named Ukushima, began in the engine room and exploding sounds were heard, though the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, news reports suggested, quoting Admiral Akira Saito, the chief of staff of Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force.
