Ms. Harini Amarasuriya reappointed as the Prime Minister in the new team of President Dissanayake in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka President Dissanayake took oath of office on Monday with a 21-member team, with a focus to revive the shattered economy of the Indian Ocean Island.

Harini Amarasuriya was reappointed as the Prime Minister of Indian Ocean Island nation Sri Lanka by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Amarasuriya had been taking care of the Finance Portfolio, which now has been retained by President Dissanayake himself.

In the general election, results of which had been declared last week, Dissanayake’s leftist coalition had won a record 159 seats in the 225-member parliament. Dissanayake today took the oath of office with a 21-member cabinet on Monday. Prime Minister Amarasuriya has been a professor of Economics.

The island nation with a strong tourism centric economy, has been going through one of the nastiest economic crises in recent years, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has a $2.9 billion programme in place to revive the economy.
