After the voting on November 5 (Tuesday), results will start coming by late evening on November 6; beginning likely with Georgia, where state law requires that all early votes be counted and reported by 01:00 GMT on the election night.

The world community is eagerly waiting for the next President of United States of America. Being the economically most powerful nation, supported by its military powers, United States’ policies and moves directly affect the economy of nations. More so, when the election promises of the two candidates have clearly brought out what policies each would be adopting.

Is it Mr. Trump?

Mr. Donald Trump has clearly stated that if he wins, he would be imposing a 10% tariff on all imports, and 60% tariff on electronic vehicles from China, going by his ‘America First’ policy. This will re-order the economy of nearly all the nations who are directly or indirectly related with the U.S. in trade and business. Trump’s Presidency will engage China in an economic war, literally.

Trump cares little for NATO, and he has often stated that he would not be sacrificing American economy for security of NATO allies, particularly Ukraine. Europe will back out supporting Ukraine, if Trump wins. Europe, however, would much expect the U.S. support against Russia, not just for Ukraine but for other reasons too.

For Russia, Trump would mean ceasefire with Ukraine.

In Asia Pacific, the U.S. is engaged in conflict with China and North Korea under the Joe Biden regime. Trump’s win may convert U.S.’s conflict with China mostly in terms of economy.

Middle-East is a crucial geography where the U.S. is deeply involved since long. Trump’s stated support for Israel is known. Middle-East, however, has no choice. Even if Kamala Harris comes, war in the Middle-East will continue until Israel is satisfied.

Thus, there are challenges for the world community in case of a Trump win.

Is it Ms. Harris?

Ms. Kamala Harris has tried to present an alternative to Joe Biden, and would not like to be known as Biden II.

Harris’s promises are mostly related to the interior economy of the United States, its middle class and others.

Harris will continue to support Ukraine in the war against Russia, something that Europe would like. For Europe, keeping Russia in check is important, and Harris will have no issue on it. Interestingly, Russia would not mind Harris’ coming to power.

However, Harris has asked Israel several times to go for ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, because the war has created huge humanitarian crisis like civilian death, homelessness, hunger, disease and migration. The United Nation too has asked Israel to stop.

With regard to China, Harris’s policies may not directly alter U.S.’s hot and cold relations with China, but things will hold a status quo instead of getting worse.

In the Middle-East, Joe Biden administration made good effort to bring about ceasefire, but could not. Harris’s administration would continue to make this effort, and even may coerce Israel for ceasefire.

Recent BRICS Summit in Russia’s Kazan has shown that there are half of the world’s nations who want multilateral world. Trump’s policy of ‘America First’ may try to maintain the unipolar world, while Harris’s approach too, may be not much different.
