Lady doctor’s rape and murder evokes massive protests in India

Protests in India have intensified after a mob vandalized a hospital in the province of West Bengal where a female trainee doctor had been raped and murdered a few days back. The Hospital had been attacked on August 14, a day before the country celebrated its Independence Day, during a massive rally Reclaim the Night march held on the city of Kolkata to protest against the rape and murder of the lady doctor.

During the protest, clash erupted between the police and a group of protestors, and some men barged into the hospital and ransacked the beds and equipment in the emergency ward. The Indian Medical Association (IMA), the country's largest association of doctors, has announced a nationwide strike of non-emergency services on Saturday.
