Aeroplane-maker Boeing plans to lay off 2,500 workers in the U.S. alone as part of its job cut plan, which globally is expected to stand at 17,000, news organisations reported on Tuesday.
With 17,000 job cuts, Boeing would be reducing its workforce by 10% and the move will affect engineers, technicians and non-union workers, the report said. The report said that around 2,200 layoff notices have been served to workers in Washington and another 220 in South Carolina, the two states where Boeing builds commercial airliners in the US.
The layoff plan is being undertaken to address finance in the company which reportedly is heavily debt-ridden.
