Holding elections in Syria may take upto four years, de facto ruler of the politically volatile nation Ahmed al-Sharra has said, reported by news organisations.
This is the first time the de facto ruler of Syria has spoken publicly after autocrat ruler Bashar al-Assad was overthrown by a rebellion a few days back. Sharaa, whose interview was being broadcast by Saudi state-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya, said that making of a new Constitution for Syria may take three years, and holding the election another one year.
In the last few days, many nations including the U.S. and the West, have held meetings either with the Syrian leaders or with the Middle-East nations to influence the course in Syria and in the region.
The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the group that majorly led the civil war in Syria under the leadership of Sharra, is reportedly trying to assure the neighbours and nations that Syria is moving away from Islamic politics.
