Germany Chancellor Scholz to Run for the Post Second Time

Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz, whose coalition collapsed a few days back, has again been chosen by his party to run for the post second time, news organisations have reported on Monday.

Scholz’s name was cleared and announced after his party SDP’s popular leader Defence Minister Boris Pistorius ruled himself out of the race last Thursday.

Scholz faces fierce competition from conservatives' chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, who is said to be quite popular. The conservative Republican’s win in the United States is feared to affect the Chancellor’s election in Germany. Slogans like “America First” is thought to be already shaping the minds of the voters in Germany. Scholz being a candidate for the Social Democrats, faces uphill task to meet the conservative narratives coming from the United States. As Germany is a prominent economy in European Union, nation is feared to put Germany first and European Union next. Due to this reason, Germany’s election is crucial in Europe. The election is scheduled for February next year.
