Hosting the Group 20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, while welcoming the world leaders, placed a challenge in front of them: to address food insecurity and human uncertainty amidst two wars and the change of guard in the United States.

“It is for those of us here, around this table, to face the undelayable task of ending this stain that shames humanity,” news organisations reported the Brazilian President as telling his colleagues at the Summit on Monday. “That will be our biggest legacy.”

Among the leaders who are taking part in the Summit that ends on November 19 include U.S. President Joe Bide, Chinese President Xi Jinping, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others.

The Summit is scheduled for the heads of state and government to approve the agreements negotiated throughout the year and point out ways of dealing with global challenges. Representatives of the African Union and the European Union too are taking part in the Summit.
