French President Immanuel Macron has called for a halt on delivery of arms for use in Gaza war, promoting criticism from Israel.

News reports said that Macron in an interview with a French broadcaster recorded on Tuesday and aired on Saturday, said “France is not delivering any weapons” to Israel, and ‘the priority is that we return to a political solution, that we stop delivering weapons to fight in Gaza’.

The French President also reiterated his stand and expressed concern on Saturday over Gaza conflict and entry of Israeli troops into Lebanon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu replied by saying: “Shame on them”, referring to Macron and other Western leaders calling for halt of the war. "Israel will win with or without their support", and that call for an arms embargo was "a disgrace", Netanyahu was quoted as saying by news organisations, referring to a video clip released by Israeli PM’s office.

Later on Sunday, the French President’s office is reported to have issued a statement saying: “France is Israel's steadfast friend".
