France President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a meeting on Wednesday (January 22, 2025) in Paris in order to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff proposal on European nations.

The U.S. has trade deficit with Europe; and President Trump, as per his latest stand, wants to impose tariff on imports from Europe. President Trump earlier had stated that the U.S. will supply energy to Europe.

President Trump’s “America First” and “make America Great Again”, is centred basically on trade and economy. This means that President Trump will adopt a policy to level U.S. trade deficits with other nations, and he has made this clear with his statements, including that for China.

President Macron and Chancellor Scholz maintained that Europe is strong enough to withstand the upcoming U.S. policies vis-à-vis Europe.
