Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s plan to go to U.K. to seek political asylum has hit “uncertainties” and she may have to continue to stay in India for the next few days.

Indian foreign minister Mr S. Jaishankar, without elaborating much, has said that Ms Hasina sought to come to India on a ‘short notice’.

Ms Hasina on Monday had arrived at the Hindon airbase near Delhi after fleeing her country, following which her official residence in Dhaka had been stormed by the protestors. She has been moved to an undisclosed location for her safety. She wants to seek political asylum in U.K. but the British government is said to have clarified that she might not receive legal protection in U.K. against possible investigation.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has stated that Bangladesh has experienced "unprecedented levels of violence and tragic loss of life" in recent weeks, and there could well be a “full and independent UN-led investigation into the incident”.
