Everything is not well with European Union nations over Russia-Ukraine war that has crossed thousand days and Ukraine still hoping to ‘win’ the war.

While Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sees Russia as the biggest threat to European Union, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico holds a one-on-one talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a visit to Moscow. Ukraine President Zelenskiy criticizes German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for not agreeing to his request to provide him with long-range Taurus cruise missiles to use them against Russia, to which NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says Zelenskiy’s criticism against Scholz ‘unfair’.

Previously, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in April 2022 and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban last July visited Russia and held talks with Putin. These two high profile visits too drew criticism from European Union member nations.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s visit was reportedly to discuss with Putin ‘how to peacefully end the war’, according to a Facebook post by the Slovak leader. He has been critical of continued European Union support to Ukraine, which is getting prolonged with every passing day.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban too had earlier stated against continued support to Ukraine for the war, particularly after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, in his election campaign said that Zelenskiy should negotiate with Russia and end the war. Trump has often called Zelenskiy as the ‘greatest salesman on earth’.

U.S. President Joe Biden continued to offer support to Zelenskiy in the war against Russia. But after the defeat of the Democrats and the coming of Republican Trump, whose interests are focused—'Making America Great Again’ and ‘America First’ being the taglines, and the list of his ‘dos’ including ending Russia-Ukraine war, European Union nations may have more voices against the war in the coming days.

Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he will have no hesitation in negotiating with Trump to end the war.

While the end to the Russia-Ukraine war seems to be nearing, Israel-Palestine-Lebanon war has now been entangled with a new twist—Syria.
