Crisis in Syria deepened on Thursday with the rebels managing to capture the city of Hama that left Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his Russian and Iranian allies in the lurch. The rebels had already captured Aleppo, another important Syrian city.

According to media reports, the rebels were prepared to keep marching south towards Homs, Syria's great crossroads city that links the capital Damascus to the north and coast.

Syria is passing through a civil war for the last 13 years, which has erupted intensely now again. The Syrian opposition has evolved since the beginning of the Syrian conflict, calling for the overthrow of Assad government. Many nations including Turkey, Iran, Russia among others, are either direct or indirect players in the Syrian crisis, for different interests.
