China-India agree on “stable, predictable and amicable” bilateral relationship, even as Mr. Modi invites Putin to visit India next year for India-Russia Annual Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held their first bilateral talk in five years on the sidelines of BRICS Summit in Kazan city of Russia.

The two leaders, according to reports of news organisations, agreed on several points, main among them being “stable, predictable and amicable” bilateral relationship between New Delhi and Beijing, which they feel will have a “positive impact on global peace and prosperity”.

Two days ago, China and India had reached a deal to resolve border dispute that agreed to restore patrolling rights to each in the Depsang Plains and Demchok region. News organisations said, quoting Indian Prime Minister Mr. Modi that maintaining peace on border should be a “priority”.  Reports said that China was ready to “work with India”.

Earlier, the two leaders had separately held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on the sidelines of the Summit. Indian Prime Minister Mr. Modi is learnt to have invited President Putin to visit India next year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. The two leaders discussed cooperation in various areas, including politics, economics, defence, energy, and people-to-people ties, Indian news establishments reported, quoting a press release from the office of the Prime Minister of India.
