China’s reported shrinking population has made the nation come out with measures to boost childbirths, news organisations reported.

On Monday, China announced steps to improve family planning and parenting measures after two consecutive years of a birthrate going down. Measures included maternity insurance, maternity leave, subsidies and medical resources for children, budgets by local governments for childcare centres.

China had been the most populated nation in the world until Asian nation, India, overtook it to become the most populated nation of the world. Presently, the population of China stands at 1.4 billion. However, the birthrate in China have been drastically falling. Willingness to bear child has reportedly become less among couples, which according to policy makers, is the principal reason for low birthrate trend.
