Ahead of the BRICS summit in Russia, two powerful neighbouring nations of South Asia, China and India, have reached a deal to solve their disputed frontiers and end their military stand-off, news organisations reported on Monday.
Relations between China and India had been strained since 2020 after a clash between the militaries of these nations at the undermarketed borders in the Himalayan region that had left many soldiers from either side dead. Ever since, there has been military build-up from either side in the Himalayan region, particularly in Ladhak region bordering the two nations.
BRICS summit is scheduled to begin from October 22 and go till October 24, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to participate. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is expected to attend the meet. The two leaders of the two most powerful nations in South Asia are also expected to meet on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan city of Russia.
The deal solving border dispute has come at a time when the unipolar world with U.S. hegemony is being challenged by Russia through BRICS that has many nations from Middle-East too. Despite sanctions by the West and the U.S. on Russia due to its war against Ukraine, India had decided to buy oil from Russia, though it keeps cordial relations with the U.S.
