China Hopes Japan will Work with it to Maintain Mutual Cooperation

As the new PM of Japan floated, a few weeks back, the idea of ‘Asian version of NATO’ with China in mind, military rich China responds with a hope for mutual cooperation

China on Monday hoped that Japan will work with it to maintain a "mutually cooperative and non-threatening" positioning, news organisations reported quoting the conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Japan's national security adviser Takeo Akiba.

Japan has got a new prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, who succeeded Fumio Kishida on 1 October 2024, following the 2024 election.

Japan-China has a strained relations with Japan often expressing fear of Chinese domination in military space in the region. A few days back, the new prime minister had floated the idea of an Asian version of NATO, to which the U.S. and India had rejected. The Japanese idea, in fact, had China in target.
