After the European Union countries voted in favour of tariff hike on Chinese EV cars, China had its own way of responding: It imposed anti-dumping measures on brandy imports from the European Union on Tuesday.

According to news organisations’ report, Chinese measures will hit brands like Hennessy to Remy Martin from Europe. Chinese Commerce Ministry stated that dumping of brandy from EU threatened to bring about substantial damage to its own industry, which forced the country to take the measures.

EU countries’ have now started charging China of violating “free trade”. China also said that it was considering hike in tariff on import duty of large-engine vehicles, which will hard-hit German producers. Last year, the business in this segment for Germany stood at $1.2 billion.

On the other hand, France is expected to bear the brunt of imposition of measures on brandy. It does a brandy export business of $1.7 billion a year with China.
