China and Britain on Friday embarked on what they called a “new starting point” in their relations after a meeting between British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi in Beijing.

“China-Britain relations now stand at a new starting point," news organisations said quoting Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi. The nations said they plan to develop "pragmatic" bilateral ties. Reports the two nations plan to discover scope for mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as climate, energy, science, trade and tech.

European Union countries had recently decided to tax upto 45 per cent on EV produced by China. China in retaliation had placed sanction on some liquor brands, directly impacting liquor business of some EU countries. Britain being a country outside EU now, is seeking to renew its ties with China positioning itself differently from the EU member countries.
