A ceasefire between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah appears in sight, news organisations reported on Tuesday referring positions held by officials of both Israel and Lebanon.

Referring to a senior Israeli official and Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib as appearing “optimistic that a deal could be reached”, global news agency Reuters has said that U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to announce the ceasefire deal.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had met leaders of the Islamic world as well as Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding a ceasefire possibility in the Middle-east. Many European nations too have urged Israel to ceasefire in the Middle-east as there is a miserable humanitarian situation. Mass displacement, huge casualty apart, food crisis and illness has badly hit the Palestinians.

Israel, meanwhile, launched new airstrikes on Beirut suburbs, bringing about destruction of buildings.
