Britain and India on Tuesday signed a free trade pact that allows the two nations increase their trade on whiskey, cars and food. The free trade negotiations had been happening between the two nations for the past three years, but U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff is supposed to have hastened the talks and bring them to mutually benefitting conclusion.

The deal aims to increase bilateral trade by 25.5 billion pounds by 2040. The size of the bilateral trade between India and Britain at present is 40 billion pounds.

The pact opens up the Indian market in the sectors like automobiles, while India looks up to export food. Indian automobile market is a highly competitive market, but free trade negotiation with Britain helps British cars market themselves in India.
