BRICS Summit adopt Kazan Declaration that stresses global security and multilateralism

BRICS Summit focuses on three pillars of political and security, economic and financial, cultural and people-to-people cooperation

BRICS member nations on Wednesday adopted the Kazan Declaration that emphasises reforms in global security and multilateralism. The theme of the Summit was, ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security’.

“As we build upon 16 years of BRICS Summit, we further commit ourselves to strengthening cooperation in the expanded BRICS under the three pillars of political and security, economic and financial, cultural and people-to-people cooperation and enhancing our partnership for the benefit of our people through the promotion of peace, a more representative and fairer international order, a reinvigorated and multilateral system, sustainable development and inclusive growth,”the  Kazan declaration stressed.

The approval of the document was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his capacity as host of the BRICS summit. News organisations reported Putin as asking,“Are there any objections to this declaration or comments?” the colleagues. “If not, I propose considering the declaration adopted.” The document, as Putin explained, “contains general assessments of the state of affairs in the world, summarizes the results of Russia’s presidency of BRICS, and defines guidelines for long-term cooperation.”

The 16 th BRICs Summit is taking place in Kazan city of Russia and will conclude on October 24.
