An Attack on a Christmas Market in Germany, Kills Five, leaves 200 Others Injured

In an attack on a Christmas market in Germany on Saturday, five people have been killed and another around 200 injured. The security persons have arrested a Saudi doctor as a suspect, according to news reports, and are investigating into the incident further. The suspect reportedly rammed a car he drove, at a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg in Germany.

According to news reports, the suspect reportedly has a history of anti-Islam rhetoric. “What a terrible act it is to injure and kill so many people there with such brutality," news reports quoted Chancellor Olaf Scholz as saying. The suspect allegedly has been a far-right supporter.

Germany, the strongest economy of European Union, is set to go for a fresh poll scheduled in February after the coalition government of Scholz was voted out by the parliament. The Christmas market incident will impact the course of politics in Germany.
